any one have any experience with this scrool saw? I never used one thought i would try my hand at it. its got a large 22 inch throat capacity, not variable speed(is that important for scroll saws?). Figured if i put some good blades on it it would be fine, anything else u guys recomend in this price range?

Jeff,
My wife and I got hooked on the idea of a scroll saw at the ww'ers show recently. She wanted to get into doing little fret work type crafts. Anyways, what we learned in very short order was that you a scroll saw with parallel arm type movement, not C arm like the grizzly and the other lower cost units. We tried some cuts on a Delta 16" unit that looked to be a heavy machine and found that the C type movement was a cause for alot of vibration and difficulty on inside corners.
The variable speed is a must have. The toolless blade change is a must have. Controls up front are desired. Parallel arm movement is a must have.
In summary, there are two unit I would consider. The DeWalt would be my FIRST choice under a thousand dollars. It can be had for $289 at Harbor Freight reconditioned. My SECOND choice would be the newer Delta -- dash 570. That's on sale at Rockler for $199 till the end of the month.
Everyone I talked to about scroll saws loves the craft, but all agree that you have to have a comfortable machine to enjoy it.
