Rattan Finishing

I have a few questions concerning Rattan:

1) Is it stained? Or is that the natural color?

2) How do you refinish Rattan? Can I sand it?

Rattan can be refinished in the same manner as wood. It is a light straw color when natural and can darken w/ age if left uncoated. The inner part is very poreus and soft;easily sands and accepts stain. The outer shell is just the opposite and the finish will have to be toned or glazed to make darker.
