desk with leather insert

I'm refisishing an old desk that has three leather panels. Having trouble removing the old leather from the grooves, and don't know how to put the new leather in. Any advice would be appreciated.

Generally the leather is fitted to a thin panel which is then fitted into a recess in the desk top. You'll need to remove this panel first.
