Check out www.stewmac.com. They are suppliers of guitar repair and building supplies and equipment. They also sell books on how to build guitars. Excellent place to start. I don't know your skill level but building a guitar requires lots of freehand shaping. Building jigs would help keep things symmetrical where necessary. For the first time around I would suggest buying a neck kit and just doing the body. Fret work is very difficult. Another thing you might consider is this: Go to www.musiciansfriend.com. Look for Rogue Guitars. I just bought a Fat Strat knock off for $79.00!!!! It has a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. The catch is that the pickups aren't the best and the body is particle board. But think about this, now you have a bolt on neck (excellent quality) and some electronics (although not the best) and a template for the body all for $79.00. Once I learn how to actually play mine, I plan to make a new body for it and get some better pickups. All in all its a cheap way to go. The guitars are made for Rogue by Squier in the Squier factory. I'm very pleased with the guitar as is, I just wanted a fun woodworking project. Anyway, I'll stop rambling on and let you get to your guitar. Good luck. E-mail me if you have any questions.
