Hello all!
I was thinking of building a porch swing for my mother and don't want to spend a fortune on lumber. I do want to use something that will hold up to the weather. I was considering cypress and was wondering if anyone knows if it would meet the strenght requirements if proper jointery is used?

Thanx!
Ron

It should work fine for that application. I would use through tendons as the major structural joints.

I have wood strength chart on my web page (along with a bunch of other stuff). It's on the Guest page: http://www.netexperts.cc/~lambertm/Wood/guest.html

Hi Ron I built a front yard garden bench from cypress 8 years ago it still works fine. Cypress is much like pine or western red cedar to work with. I'd use a poly urethane glue like gorilla glue to hold the joints together
