Hi, I'm making a toy for a school project and it is going to have a cam mechanism. The base is going to be made out of multiply and the spindle and follower sticks out of 3mm diameter dowel. I am going to have two horses at the top but each of them must be no more than 6.5cm including the head and tail. I was thinking maybe I ought to use a 2cm diameter dowel for the body and 2d shapes cut out of plywood for the heads and tails. Also I was thinking maybe the legs should be cut out 2d from plywood and connected to the boddy with a wooden peg so as to allow freedom of movement within the joint. I was also thinkin that I should just give the whole thing a matt varnish after constructing it. Would these choices be the best to make?

It sounds ok but it is hard to tell from here without a picture.

Good Luck
