I suggest you contact the [link:www.epa.gov/|E.P.A.]
They will be able to tell you exactly what is and what isn't allowable.

As close as possible to zero.

Paint containing lead was removed from the U.S. market many years ago because of the health hazard it presents. Buy your paint here and there won't be a problem.

I beleive current regulations are zero. Lead was legislated out several years ago.

Yep, since lead apparently causes cancer (but only in the state of California, according to my fishing jigs! :D ) it's banned from anything that will see daily use in Canada and the US...except fishing jigs! :D

If he's going to use furniture as his lure he must be fishing for Ladyfish... :7

Peter,
Just today, a HUGE recall of Sesame Street toy characters was announced. The characters were painted with paint containing lead.
If the paint that you use has more than zero lead, you will have a problem.

Actually, the reason for the banning of lead in paint and most other finishes or finishing materials was that it causes brain damage in children if they ingest paint chips or chew on wood that contains lead based paint.

And just when a significant number of kid docs thought it might be safe to discontinue blood lead level testing in kids.
