Holy mother of Moses the boy bought a machine with a demo piece already in the packing case !!
Sonny I refuse to believe you did that, come on 'fess up you got a ringer in to try and embarass all of us who took weeks if not month's to get to that stage. !!
No you've been secretly practising for month's so that you could say . Hey folks if I was to consider etc. etc. Then say day 2 I think I might etc.etc. Then day 3 say I bought a lathe this morning etc etc...
I am going to hang up my chisels NOW. There is no way, even though I did say it was easy, that I am going to live with that sort of progress.

Only joking ,Sonny, I think you know that.

My sincerest congratulations on a truly remarkable debut, you are a natural and I am not going to lose a minutes sleep now that you have snorted your first helping of the crack cocaine of woodworking feeling guilty that I may have been partly responsible for your new addiction which will make all your previous vices seem like the first puff of an illicit cigarette behind the fence at "kindergarten".
I went to pick up some shaper tooling that I had ordered recently and yes I couldn't leave without a 2' piece of Cocobolo and a 10" square of Canarywood both of which said buy me buy me I'm a poor orphan that needs a home.
Just like the candy at the checkout, you'll see.
You didn't listen when I warned you did you?
Walk into my parlour said the spider to the fly!

Once again don't let my clowning fool you THAT IS SOME START you made there Kiddo .

Yours in stunned admiration

Thanks for the clarification. I hadn't seen that lathe from Cratsman somehow. It looks an awful lot like mine (Delta 701 - discontinued) except our motors are mounted perpendicular. Is it cariable speed or do you change pulleys to change speeds. Just a curious kind of guy.

Best Regards,

Bill

...is eggzackary the lathe I was going to get. But I decided to get the Delta Midi for 300 whereas your would have cost me 500 and some acreage in the shop.
And we both know it's the hands and heart guiding the tools, Not the name on the tool.
Behold, my very first attempt:
