Is it recommended that a thread adhesive of some sort be used when attaching jaws to chuck,ie: LockTite or etc etc?????
Can you imagine one of those guys getting airborne...they got sharp corners!!!!!

It hasn't happened to me, nor have I ever heard of it. I wouldn't think it a good idea, unless you have dedicated chuck bodies for the different jaws.

Bill

I've never had a problem with the screws coming loose on my SuperNova chuck. In fact, I had one screw freeze on me and I had to drill it out.
Nova Chuck Tips:
I highly recommend that you order an extra set of screws. If you will be swapping jaws frequently you are bound to drop a screw into a pile of shavings never to be found again. Given that they are a metric flathead screw, you may have problems finding them at a local vendor, as I did. You can purchase a set of 8 screws with an extra set screw from the dealer that sold you your Nova chuck.
If you don't own a 4mm T-handle allen wrench I recommend that you get one. It will make changing jaws a lot easier.
Don't use the chuck key as a lever to loosen the chuck from the headstock spindle as the gear on the key is only made from pot metal and will break. If you must use the key, use the handle of the key inserted in the hole on the side of the chuck. A large screwdriver or small pry bar is preferrable.
There is a problem with the numbering on some of the jaws. In some cases, depending on when your chuck/jaws were manufactured, you will need to swap jaws 2 & 4 to get a good fit. To tell if you need to do this, install the jaws onto the chuck but don't tighten the screws down more than finger tight. Crank the jaws closed. If they all meet nicely with no gaps, you're ok. If not, swap jaw 2 with jaw 4 and when you check again you'll find it fits better. This is a known problem with the SuperNova. I have to swap 2 & 4 on all 3 sets of jaws that I own.

Dick,
My Talon chuck came with the screws coated with a copper anti sieze on them. As do the screws for the accessory jaws I got.
I wouldn't Lock-tite them myself.
If you choose to Lock-tite them, only use the blue removeable type. And then only a tiny, tiny amount. Lock-tite themselves only recommend a trace on a fastener is plenty.
More than that and your just wasteing it. And this is straight from the folks who want to sell it.
But I wouldn't go that route on my chuck, unless there is deffinate evidence of the screws worrying loose in use. FYI

Hey Mr Steve,
I didn't know that, the problem with the numbering I mean.
I'm going to have to check that out when I get home, maybe thats why I am cracking the "foot" on my bowls trying to secure them on the jaws.
Thanks Canuck....have to laugh at work and I know we are nearer Toronto than you but........ listening to the Islander fans...ooh are they crying like babies cos those nasty Maple Leafs beat 'em up.
Have a good one.
Cheers Limey

Bill,
Yes, that is what that "rust" was. There are silver and copper anti sieze compounds.
The copper is best for steels and irons. The silver we use on stainless steel bolts for making our high voltage connections.
Besides, Ya silly, rust has to be scrubbed off. Copper anti sieze wipes off with a rag.

You should have been around here when the Canucks lost. :-(
The numbering issue does not affect all Nova Chuck, apparently. I haven't seen anything on Teknatools website about it, but the sales guy at KMS Tools mentioned it to me when I bought the chuck. Apparently they had a few jaw returns until they discovered the problem.
