Router Trouble

I bought a router recently, but when fitting a cutter I forgot to remove the spindle lock bar before turning it on. Although I realised this quickly and turned it off, a small amount of smoke came from the router. Have I permanently damaged it?

If it got hot enough to smoke it got hot enough to hurt it. I thought the circuitry had a permissive interlock(switch) to keep that from happening.

I would take it back and raise hell with somebody.
