View Full Version : To carve or not to carve?

That's a cute li'l one-lunger. What's it, about a quarter cube? A third? I've got little to scale it to, so it's a tad hard to tell.

I think I'd be inclined to carve it from several blocks and carefully glue 'em up. I'd leave registration details on the insides to make sure everything lined up just right for the glueup.

If you carve it in one piece, then you're under the stress of perfection - one screwup and the job is ALL gone. If you make it in several pieces, then one screwup means you only have to redo that one piece.

I want to replicate an engine block out of wood. Would this be too hard to carve out of solid block or should I just break it down into many parts and glue it up?

Hehe, it's a .15 Nitro RC engine for a 1/10th scale truck if that tells ya anything. Dimensions are about 2"x2"x1-1/2". I was leaning towards the glue up side. Thanks for the input.
