i saw 2 saws today at an antique store and it looks like one was a rip and the other a crosscut-at least they had different teeth so i assume that is what they were. anyway, they both had "warranted superior" buttons on the handle. would these be millers falls? and if so, is this a quality saw?...
thanks a lot!!

The Warranted Superior medallion were put on the Disston secondary lines, i.e. the Jackson saws, as well as some of the store brands that Disston made. They also sold those medallions to other makers, so you will find those medallions on saws made by any number of companies. Disston also bought out a number of companies and put the Warranted medallions on the saws branded for those companies.

So question on this saw, I was able to pick one of these up today. The blade had a tar like substance. Do you know if this is the original packing of the saw? I wiped down the saw blade with mineral spirits and it looks like the saw has never been used....Ideas?

Post some picks. Should be able to tell by them.
