Closely related to my previous post:

When moving into the new house, we had our portable dishwasher installed next to the sink and permanently piped in. It gave Mary some extra countertop space and got the machine out of the middle of the kitchen.

The top is butcher block, which Mary has never used as a cutting board, and she never plans to do so. I plan to give it the once over with the ROS and give it a few coats of wipe-on poly. We are simply looking to protect the wood, since this will be used as countertop and will hold the dish drainer tray. Any pros or cons on this idea?

Tim,

I think I am nearly as busy as I was when I was still pastoring, but it is a different kind of busy. I'm still wiping out by early to mid-afternoon, but after a few hours of napping I'm back at it. Part of it is necessity, because we have to get unpacked so we can walk around here. Part of it is the pure joy of working with tools, whether that is cutting a shim or something on the bandsaw (the only piece of equipment available to use yet), hanging pictures or racks, or plumbing up the new line for the ice maker.

I know the rush of having to get all this done, trying to sort and sell my library, and getting ready for a yard sale, is wearing on me. At the same time, I am having a blast!!

As far as I am corcerned, that is the best kind of busy there is. I wish that I could find the time to do all those things round my house. I am envious.

Busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger?

For the top of the diswasher, my suggestion would be dewaxed shellac to get tint (if you want to) and then polyurethane. If she ever plans to use it as a cutting surface, then I would skip the polyurethane and go with many coats of shellac and a good layer of non-toxic wax to polish it out.
