MAN - everytime I think I am getting somewhere with woodworking "someone" pops something truly amazing in here.

I am undone - That is simply awesome.

OK - how did you carve it - can we see your carving tools?

AutoMan - look out you got someone nipping at your heels!!

Now that is a very creative box! I really like the way you did the hinges.

Thanks for the encouraging words. The box is a gift for my Sister-in-law. I really hope she will enjoy the box. Tools were just regular flat chisels from the big box and sandpaper. For this project I ground an old 1/4 inch down to 1/8 inch wide for the little places. I tried a little rotary tool in a couple of places but could not find a suitable cutter so I did not use it much. One cutter was so aggressive it was hard to control. The others were so fine they did not move much wood. I don’t think automan has any real competition from this quarter. He really does great detailed work.
Thanks

Carved Pine jewelry box about 6 x 4 ½ x 12. Inspired by pictures of Mexico antiques. Glued two planks together, rough hollowed the inside of the box and the lid. Then glued the lid to the stack with paper in the joint. Carved the outside surfaces, split the top off at the glue joint and finished the inside of the box. Applied hinges, felt, stain, poly and paste wax.
