Not much of something, but they are finished. I first made one of these in a bandsaw class six months or so ago. My wife liked them and ordered more . . . for her, my mother, my sister, and her sister.

I got the first batch done just before Thanksgiving and gave them to my mom and my sister. This batch is ready to be delivered just in time to be decorations this Christmas. Everyone got one tall, one medium, and one short. Except my wife - she gets two tall, two short, and four medium.

The short and medium are cut from blocks of 2x4. The tall ones are cut from blocks of 2x6 laminated together face-to-face. They have a coat of minwax dark walnut stain (per request - I liked them better au natural), then sprayed with three coats of shellac, then three coats of poly.

Very nice! Looks like a lot of sanding was involved.

Matt,

Those look S O cool!!

Possible to get some side views maybe with a ruler present? (small, medium, & large)

... and just out of construction lumber?!

All done on a band saw?! Looks like a scroll saw in there somewhere! What size / type blade in bandsaw?

Thanks guys.

It's all on the bandsaw and it was a lot of sanding. My bandsaw is a 10" Delta. I had my smallest blade on it - I think it's a 1/8". I use the pattern below, scale it to the size I want, print it out and wrap a 2x4 on two sides with it. Make the cuts by-the-number. Tape the off cuts from the first cut back onto the block so you've got a flat surface to ride on your bandsaw table for the remaining cuts.

That's a lot of work for pipe clamp blocks. ;)

Just kidding! Looks like a lot of work went into those.

Matt,

Thank you very much! I don't have a 1/8" blade for my BS... will have to use scroll saw for small cuts...

Did you just use const. grade 2x4's, etc.?

Looks like Fir...

How did you Finish them?

Just construction grade stuff.

They have a coat of minwax dark walnut stain, then sprayed with three coats of shellac, then three coats of poly.
