Hi, I'm Becky and I'm looking for plans for a large wooden trash receptacle for indoor use. I would also be willing to buy the finished product if someone makes these for purchase.

The one I saw was two pieces...a large lower box that holds a 33 gallon bag. It had a punch board back for ventilation. The top had a hinged lid and was done in a kind of country look. It was made by an elderly gentleman in San Angelo Texas, and no one seems to know where he got his plans.

If anyone has any information, please email me at angelgrandma@email.com or rebecca.hogg@asu.edu.

Thanks...looking forward to hearing from you.

I have a plan for a recycle bin on my web page that may be a starting point. It has a padded lid and sits by the front door as a stool to sit on to remove your shoes as well as hiding the bin.

Thanks Mark...this is indeed a starting point. Have you ever seen or heard of one like I described? I've only seen two...one at my step-daughter's house, and the other one at my nephew's house. They both live in the Dallas area, so I'm wondering if this is a Texas thing.

Thanks for replying.

I've seen a fairly wide assortment of trash containers and recycle bin holders. From simple boxes to elaborate cabinets with swinging doors and full extension trays.

Since there isn't a hard standard for trash containers its difficult to put together a set of plans that will work for all situations. There are certain items in common tho. You have to be able to get the inner receptical out. You don't want to make the receptacle too big or it will be too heavy for anyone except a football linebacker to lift out. Conversely making the container too small means that you have to change it out every time someone tossed a Kleenex.

Tops can be plain or ornate. I've seem some that look like lecterns or that have elaborately painted/inlaid finishes.

Basic construction is a box, sized to fit your container. Do you have any dimensions to work with?
