When Apollo 1 burned, I cried. I had met all three.
When Challenger exploded, I cried.
Apollo 13 was the worst week of my life. When I built the Apollo Checkout Equipment, did I screw up and miss that stuck relay in the fuel cell heater? When it was announced that a lightening strike was the cause of the problem, THAT(!) was one of the best days of my life.
Today, I cried.
Seven people,
All doing things similar to Jonas Salk, Albert Sabin, Louis Pasteur and Walter Reed.
Only the laboratory location was different for these seven people.
All seven died.
God speed…
