Finally......
Managed to get the laptop set up and should be free of interuptions to post a heartfelt thankyou to everyone on the forum who has carried me through a week of intense pain and anguish.... you cannot believe the intense lift that your thoughts and messages have given me.
Thank you is totally inadequate.
I truly feel humble and undeserving of all your attention.
My first experience of a totally alien Health Care System and a rapid learning curve in differentiating between "OPTIONS" based on medical decision making based on Insurance coverage, Protection from possible malpractice law suits, and my belief that the prime intention is to plunder the insurance coverage as aggresively and as quickly as possible.
It's been an interesting exercise in getting past these issues and talking meaningfully with the actual doctor to establish the real options.
My ignorance of the way things normally happen may have helped.... I don't think that the system gets too many challenges in the form of.."lay out the options and I 'll let YOU know what I want to happen"
and no I am sorry I will not sign any form that gives you the right to put me under anaethsetic and radically change treatment plans without my consent.
Final upshot is that everything in the pelvis is stable and that a long and painful operation to pin the pieces together will not speed up the healing process..furthermore traction to keep the hip immobile would lengthen the total process as it would require an additional 6-8 weeks to build up all the muscles that would have wasted away through inactivity.
The big downside is that any stupidity on my part will disturb the unstable socket and put me back to "square one". That's when it got interesting and really got me into lobbying the physiotherapist to counsel on my behalf and agree with me that the very thought of traction would be sufficient motivation to heed to the letter the regimen of things I wouldn't attempt.
In essence I think the Doctor agreed cause he gets the business and the follow up whatever happens. The physiotherapist gets a motivated customer which makes his task easier. The actual nursing staff breath a sigh of relief that they don't have to deal with my non compliant behaviour.. and the only section pissed is the administrative bureau crats who haven,t maximized my earning potential because I refused their kind offer to continue my care in the on site rehabilitation unit.
But having said all that don't think I'm abnormal.. decisions on these issues are precisely the same as any other.. gather information..ask questions and then get what you need not neccesarily what someone wants you to have... bit like buying your first tablesaw....LOL.
Won't bore you any longer and again thank you all once again I was overwhemed by your collective and individual reponse
