What is it with holidays and appliance failures? Do the manufacturer's have timers that cause equipment failures on known holidays?

Last evening, I made a quick trip out to Lowes to pick up pieces to install an over the oven microwave. No big deal, installation was going fine. Then my daughter calls me from the basement. "Dad, the laundry room is flooded." Nothing like having your hot water tank fail on the evening before Thanksgiving when all hte hardware stores are closed. It's a tank rupture so there is no temporary repairs or limping it through the holiday.

I had been planning on moving to a tankless unit. I guess I'll be busy on Friday. I might have to get a contractor in to do the work. The tankless units require a 3/4" or 1" gas line. Mine is 1/2" the last 25 feet. Most of the plumbing work doesn't both me but I don't do gas lines. Something about flammable gases, leaks, and life safety. It's something I leave to the pros.

Any have any experiences with tankless water heaters they can share?

Thanks
Dan

I have tankless in my furnace. I am NOT going to offerup and praises.

I also do NOT like it when the washing machine is running while I am in the shower - banging on the walls and yelling to shut of the washing machine. My wife does not like it when I turn on the hot water in the kitchen while she is in the shower.

I have been thinking about installing a hot water heater.

I don't know about one mounted in the furnace. The gas one My cousin has is a stand alone unit. While I've never showered at his house I'm assuming it works. He's one of those ones that if something fails in the least little way everyone knows about it.
