Novice woodturner has many questions!

Greetings from Ontario,Canada
I have recently started turning on a Jet mini lathe. I am mainly interested in turning bowls and lidded boxes and have many questions.(many is an understatement)
1. What types of woods are best used in making food-contact items?
2. What speed should I be using to turn bowls and does the size of the bowl relate to the speed used?
3. What are the best finishing methods for food-contact items? I have read about different waxes and oils, can you use a combination of both?
4. What type of glues should I be using when laminating different woods for food/moisture contact items.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-01 AT 10:35PM (CDT)[p]Wood - any you like. generally avoid exotics because they can cause reactions in folx.

Speed - Slower on bigger. Optimum cutting rate is X FPS. As diameter increases if RPM is constant then cut rate climbs too. Adjust speed slower as dia increases to keep cutting rate same-same.

Finish - Mineral oil. Vegetable oil sometimes goes rancid.

Glue - Titebond II or other waterproof. Most all glues are non-toxic when dry - by law - since 70's.
