Can this be done? Should it? I'm finishing a mahogany and ash jewelery box and was trying BLO for the first time, but was reading that it doesn't protect very well. Thanks in advance for the help!

You can do it if the BLO is fully cured. However, to be safe, it's always a good idea to place a seal coat of shellac over the BLO first. Shellac is compatible with most any finish and will ensure good adhesion between both the BLO and the Poly.

If you use shellac and plan to add poly over the shellac, make sure the shellac is DEWAXED.
I use a 50/50 mix of BLO and MS all the time. Let it dry 24 hrs. then apply wipe on poly if the piece needs the protection. I have never had a problem with it and the poly adheres perfectly and strongly.

Patrick,
I've put wipe on poly over Tung Oil and Minwax Antique Oil Finish without a problem. In fact, wipe on poly over MAOF is my favorite finish.

What, in this case is MS?
