I would like to my 30-year-old Craftsman table saw (with hammer-adjustable fence, etc.) with a Canwood, which just arrived this morning. I am a little concerned, because I was unfamiliar with this model, but it looked like a great saw (I looked at the Canadian Wood Show and at House of Tools). It is 2 HP, with a sliding table, smooth fence, etc. (If anyone has warnings or advice, it would be much appreciated.) Question: I am adding a dust remover, and I was thinking of doing it by modifying an old furnace fan that I have, so it would suck from the bottom of the saw and blow into a bedsheet-filter, about oildrum size. I would draw from my radial arm and chop saw, too, via clothes drier hose. Does this sound like overkill or otherwise dumb? I have languished without a woodshop for years, and now that I finally built one in my yard, I want to go with dust control.

For those who have heard of the Canwood, a review: I did buy it, and after putting it together (it had to be shipped in parts, of course), I was pleased to see how much better the quality and precision is than on the other models I looked at for around $500-700 U.S., like Delta. The sliding table, big fence, and router hole and nice, and it runs very smoothly. The extensions are dead level and very good steel.

I recently purchased a book from Grizzly on dust collection systems (about $6.95) Tells you everything you could possibly want to know about about dust collection.

I would caution you about the bed sheet idea. If you are going to have a dust collection system you want to be certain that you capture the smallest of particles since they are the ones that will travel deepest into your lungs. You may want to consider in a good dust collection bag.
