  1. Sad when you read about an old woodworking business shutting down - WEST WYOMING - After about 40 years in business, John's Manufacturing custom kitchen and woodworking business soon will close its doors.

Mr. Tafani, 61, said he is retiring as a result of a combination of factors, including his age, and his four children aren't interested in continuing the business.

"I built this business from scratch. I married this place before I married my wife," he said. "We used to do all custom work and manufacture pretty much everything. We used to make fireplaces and six-panel doors. We did high-end work." "You can't get anybody to buy a business like this. Nobody wants to do this kind of work anymore."

When Mr. Tafani started his business in the 1970s, he said manufacturing was one of the best businesses for a career. The sluggish economy has since taken a toll on his woodworking business.

"I used to pay $12 or $13 an hour and supply benefits, not anymore..."
  2. A great motto to live by for all woodworkers.

Make things that work in use and look attractive even when not in use....
