I am trying to restore an old "buffet" and I have some questions. This thing is probably around 75 years old, pine, and has been refinished at least once before. It used to be stained dark brown, but it appears to have been stripped and varnished so it is pretty light now. The finish is fine, but there are some spots where it is worn. I was wondering if there is a way that I can refinish/repair the worn areas without having to strip the whole thing.
Also, in a book I have on restoring furniture, the author keeps mentioning "white spirit". What the heck is that? Is it turpentine? I figure it's a solvent, but does it go by another name.
