I'm thinking about getting a Jet contractor saw (JWTS-10CW2-JF), but it won't come with the fence or rails. But it is at a discount (obviously), so it may be a good deal after buying the fence separately.
Anyway, what I'm looking for is a recomendation for an aftermarket fence and rails. The sales person suggested a vega fence. I wasn't sure if there was one fence system that would work better with that saw or not.
If Jet's Xacta fence fits I'd recommend it. I'm extremely happy with mine. Though it's on Jet's cabinet saw I suspect it can installed on their contractors series.
There are others out there also such as Inca, Biesemeyer, Excaliber, etc. Suggest avoiding any cable system which I think Excaliber uses. Reviews claim they're a P.I.T.A.
If I had no fence I would be very tempted with Inca's fence system. In contradiction to my Xacta plug I know. But a quality fence came standard with the cab saw and I have no complaints with it. It's easy to jig up.
Something else to consider is the fences capacity or width\rail length. Most after market fences offer a couple widths. Don't recall specifics but mine is the full width of saw and extensions. HOnestly I think it's overkill. I've yet to utilize it's max capacity. Anything that wide I tend to reach for the sled for the sake of accuracy=control=saftey.
Hi, I use the Excalibur fence and rail system, best peice of equipment i ever bought.Incra is fine but the scales are to far away for my eyes.I use the incra ultra on the router table side for certain work.
I like the Excalibur because it locks in the front and back, and it won`t budge,no matter what..Mine is the smaller one 45" I think they go into the 50" something and i never used it to capacity yet.I had it for 5 or 6 years now, no problems at all. Good Luck. Carl
I put the Jet Xacta fence on my old Craftsman and I am nothing but happy with it. I had to tap 3 holes to mount the rails but that was it. I find it to be very accurate, easy to adjust, and very stable. For the money I would buy it again. My 2 cents.
I have just been given a Coronet Major wood lathe , but the aluminium face plate is broken , where in the UK or Portugal can I get a replacement . It is quite an old lathe but it still works well ,...
Poplar is okay if they are to be painted. If not, or stained, I would not choose poplar. It is soft, uninteresting and does not finish well (unless painted). Oak or maple are not that much more...
Note: the first two pictures, top to bottom, show the sample woods I bought to match: mahogany, walnut, oak, the bottom is the side of the table. The remaining 3 pictures are of the wood in question...
I purchased a very old dining set that i'm fixing and refinishing. I'm more of a handy person than a woodworker but am enjoying the process.
I'm still stripping all of the pieces, but I know I'll...
