Table Saw surface coating
I've read somewear that a cast iron table needs to be preped before use.
I have a new rigid table saw, there is still some grease on the top. What is the best way to clean it and keep it from rusting ?

You can clean off the cosmoline protectant with WD-40, mineral spirts, or kerosene. Many folks use 2-3 coats of paste wax to protect and prevent rust. Wood magazine just did a test on rust removal and prevention, and a product called Boeshield T-9 rated among the best.

there are a lot of things that can be used to clean it but the easiest thing to do is prevent rust and that can be done best with paste wax. Some people like johnson paste wax, but I like eagle one carnuba wax as it lasts longer.

Actually try the grocery store. Or a place like Target/K Mart. Look in the floor care section. I use a product called TreWax. I get mine at the Ace Hardware store.

Most car waxes contain silicone and because of that shouldn't be used on a table saw. The silicone can attach itself to the wood which will affect the woods ability to accept a finish.
Another fine product is Bostik TopCote®. It's both a rust preventative and it also slickens up the surface.

Little (not-the-big-box) hardware stores almost always carry some sort of paste wax. Johnson's is an old standard, but a product called "Bowling Alley Wax" also works exceedingly well. A number of different manufacturers make it.
