RE: What's Better Than Brasso?
I use some stuff I got from Wallgreens called MAAS. I've found it works better than Brasso. With Brasso, I was polishing my brass once every day or two, but I can usually get away with once a week with the MAAS.
Hope this helps...

What about waxing it? Would that make the polish last more than a week?

Brasso is magical stuff.
Buffs the scratches from CDs/DVDs better than any other product I've ever tried, including toothpaste.
Seems to have just the right amount of abbrasives.

RE: What's Better Than Brasso?
If you want to try a clear coat for brass that won't chip like lacquer, then use spray acrylic. It's a bit softer and tends to "give" just a bit where other coatings would chip.
With the acrylic, the brass HAS to be clean. Use lacquer thinner or some such. Brake-cleen works too.
Nothing really works well if the brass is exposed to the weather, though.
I used to photo etch and black-nickel plate name plates and plaques for the cheeses where I work. The acrylic was all I used and never had to "fix" anything later.
For a suggested brand, Krylon works well. Don't spray it cold; let it warm to room temperature at least.
Good luck.

Anybody who was in the Navy remembers good ol' never dull lol. I polished enough brass with that stuff to fill a scrap yard, and I wasn't even in trouble.

RE: What's Better Than Brasso?
I've tried that and other wadding brands, and find that Brasso does a good job, but dosen't last. We've already addressed the topcoating with clear. When I've built commercial bars with brass rails, that's what I do. Brasso > clean > clear acrylic. I may just clear coat the hardware just to see how long it lasts before getting scratched off or worn.
