RBI Scroll Saw (Hawk Precision) ?

I have a chance to buy a 20 inch RBI in immaculate condition for $500. Anybody have experience with this machine? Second, the guy has a delta 733 planer for sale. His father in law died so their selling the tools so mother in law has some money. If it is anything like the RBI, it is in immaculate condition. In the Southern Cal, if anyone wants me to check into it for them.

Street price on that 20" saw is about twice that much. They are at the top of the line as far as scroll saws go. Never used one personally.

My uncle has that scroll saw. He loves it.

RBI machines are still American made, too.

DO YOU HAVE A GOOD USE for a superb machine? Yeah, I'd love to own one... but DANG I'd hafta' think hard to spring for it. My brains just don't use a scrollsaw for enough fine SS work to justify the shop real estate it claims.

Definitely sounds like a good buy, even if you decide later you are not using it that much you could easily recover the cost. Never hurts to buy good quality tools as they usually hold their valve. Friend has one that he paid a whole bunch more for and he is happy.

Yes, I have a good use for it (I like it and I find it calming and almost meditative. I don't have a giant workspace, I probably should get a band saw instead, but I really like scrolling. So, for the time being, no bandsaw. I will probably use the scroll saw more than a bandsaw anyway.

Well, bought the RBI Scroll saw and I must say, it is a superb machine. I played with it a little bit tonight and WOW, I am tickled pink (as one Hubert Humphrey might say) BUT THERE IS MORE! For the same price I ended up with a 12 inch portable drum sander and a box of ten straight edge clamps. Thank you Craiglist. Thank you
Tim!

Good deal, Dale.

You are aware of the "NPDH" rule, aren't you? (no pic, didn't happen)

I'd like to hear/see more on the drum sander
