    Porter-cable compressor

I have a pancake compressor that runs to about 60 psi then shuts off and restarts over and over never going over the 60 psi. Anyone have a simular issue?

I would check the pressure switch first...

Yeah, that pressure switch is REALLY suspect here. Fortunately, they're inexpensive & easy to replace.

    RE: Porter-cable compressor

I tried a pancake compressor once, but the only place it compressed my pancakes was where the legs were! Besides, the sawdust made them taste funny! :P :P

Based on problems I had with my little compressor, I agree with the diagnosis of a bad pressure switch. But the other guys know a whole lot more about those things than I do!

Thanks for the ideas, It appears to be other issues though. I by-passed the pressure swich and it still stopped.

That sounds bad - like a thermal cutout for the motor. Does the motor get really pretty hot by the time it shuts down?

Being an old motor man, I should have thought to suggest that. Right now my mind is majorly fried, but I probably wouldn't have thought of it anyway. Good catch, Tim!

    RE: Porter-cable compressor

Just an up-date, I found my problem, the housing for the compressor cracked and as the priston needed to work harder it pushed the motor out of alignment and shorted the motor. The compressor was only about four years old and only sat in the shop to use for finish nailing. Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement? I'm looking at a dewalt D55141R reconditioned for $169.

I can't remember the warantee info on my PC nairlers/air compressor - I seem to think one of them is waranteed for 5 years - but I can't remember if that is the compressor or the nailers... hmmm...

Do yourself and anybody around you a favor and look for at the Makita Hot Dog or clones of them, they are oil lubed, low RPM units with cast iron heads, much quieter and more importantly will last a lot longer.
