    dust separator lid

I just bought a dust separator lid for a trash can to make my DC into a cheap two stage. Like an idiot, I figured it would come with the inlet and outlet ready to clamp a hose on to. Instead there are two big holes with no fittings. I was going to silicone in some 4" PVC to connect hoses and then thought maybe I was missing something obvious. It didn't cost much but when I buy, I expect to get a product ready to use. I would return it if it wasn't mail ordered. Anybody have a solution?

    RE: dust separator lid

You have two options. I've done both as I have a pair of these in my shop. My first one I siliconed in a short section of PVC as you mentioned. I also came to realize you can use a section of
flex hose and "screw" it in. This works fine also.

    RE: dust separator lid

I just installed a grizzly 2hp shop dust system and it came with this lid as a gift and felt the same confusion. All i did was insert the 4" hose I was using placed it on top of a paper barrel lid and the suction holds everything in place and very convient to lift lid and check supply and clean/ I used no extra pipes/clamps/or any kind of sticky stuff to hold them in. I inserted them about 6" into the barrel and ll works GREAT.

    RE: dust separator lid

Stan. Could you be more specific about the paper barrel you are talking about? Where can you find this? How many gal is it? I am having trouble getting the lid to fit "any standard 20" diameter trash can" as it claims on the label. Metal trash can works but not snug. Is your technique to put the lid over this paper barrel you refer to?

    RE: dust separator lid

Put some foam weatherstripping tape on the inside where it contacts the trashcan, and then use a "bungie" cord from each handle and across the top of the lid.
