Witchhazel
I cleared out some mature witchhazel recently it is about 4" in diameter. It seems to regrow fast but this seems to have very fine growth rings, is very white and seems quite hard.
Anyone ever heard of anyone making anything from it? I thought maybe tool handles.

RE: Witchhazel
Hiya, ch-ch-ch-Jerry.
Sounds like it may be interesting wood to spin up on a lathe...
It's not very common stuff to work with. I'd sure like to know how it works out...
If it's REALLY white, it might be particularly interesting for accents.

Do you need a broncodilator?

Hey senor ...Weech hazel are we talking about..you done like my accent... I go back to my adobe now..
Only thing I know that it is good for is embrocation for bruises and making switches with..not electrical ones either..the type that sting when you're given a reminder that keeping frogs in the tub is not a good thing.... :)

RE: Witchhazel
One of my first jobs a a kid was to help a guy cut Witch Hazel for the T.N. Dickinson Company.
We cut it winter, took it to the plant where they chipped it, cooked out the extractives and distilled it.
I think we got $30.00 a ton. On a good day (sunrise to sunset) you cut, load and deliver two loads totalling five or six tons. I think I got $50.00.
I thought I was rich!
I don't remember ever doing anything else with the wood though...
