    Music Box

Where can I find good information on how to build a music box? Would prefer to find just some basic information on construction, tools, supplies, etc. on the internet for a music box project I would like to start.

    RE: Music Box

Basic music box is just that, a lidded box. So using a box joint jig like http://www.netexperts.cc/~lambertm/Wood/lynnjig.html would be a good starting place.

Rockler has plans, kits, and the mechanisms for a variety of music boxes.

    #52064 - Plan - $13
    #50104 - Kit - $40

Movements come in cylnders and discs. An 18 note cylnder movement is about $13 each. A 72 note cylnder three-tune movement is $400. The disc player movement is $240 (#50060) and each disc is $14.

You can also get movements at the San Francisco Music Box Company for one.

There is no "standard" design for music boxes. They were originally developed as a primative form of burglar alarm, they would make noise when opened.
