fireplace mantle-topic 265
I am new to woodworking and I would like to build a fireplace mantle to cover my ugly stone one. Is this project too difficult for a beginner? I was planning on getting The New Yankee drawing (Item #913), suggested by Norm Mellon. What tools would I need?
Thanks,
AJ

I think we need more information on the type of mantle you are going to make. I made a raised panel surround for my firebox and it turned out nicely; I also used a bunch of tools to get the work done. I would start by looking at some books on interior design and making some notes and sketches on what look you want yours to copy. From there we can more accurately assist with tools and techniques.
