Stripping Oak
I have an entertainment center which I just purchased from an auction, it is currently finished with a blond/white finish. I am attempting to strip the piece and restain it with Golden Oak. I have noticed that there are still blond/white streaks imbedded deep into the wood grain. I did a test area and sure enough there are white sliver like streaks in the wood. I am thinking it must be bleached or something in order to remove the deeply imbedded stain. Any assistance would be greatly apprichaiated.
Thanks,

RE: Stripping Oak
How are you stripping it?
I have used chemical strippers in the past on porous wood, and used a stiff bristled brush and lots of elbow grease to get the pores cleaned out.
An idea I just had but have not tried-if you cannot get ALL of the paint out of the bottom of the pores, maybe a tinted filler would cover them prior to staining the piece...
Just tossing some ideas out-I'm sure if they are not good ideas someone will come along and correct me :)

RE: Stripping Oak
I used stripper along with a bunch of elbow grease. I am afraid if I go any further I will go through the laminate of the sides and top. I have successfully removed the protective finish but the white stain which has imbedded itself into the pours of the wood are not coming out with much success. The soldid wood face pieces are fine because I can strip that all down until I get a good solid grain beneath the old stain. Any other advise would help, if no other alturnative, I have have to add new laminate finish to the sides and top.
Thanks,
Herm
