Anyone got a site for plans for things Kids can Make?
Back when my son-in-law was working at Lowes, he hit on some Bob the Builder inspired kits that the grandkids, ages 4 - 5, would put together. Time well spent, focus on the project, interest in the tools, a reward for a job well done. Lotsa positives and some quality time with me to boot. Well, I'm outa kits and I think they can move on to bigger things, if Someone cuts out the parts and had them ready for assembly. So, I'm looking. No where on the scale of a rocking horse -- I may have to start with bookends....
If you've run across such an inspirational site, please let me know.
tks in advance

Check your local public library. Ours is small, but they had a couple of good books of woodworking plans for children. If I can find the time to get over there this week, I'll post the names and publishers of those books.

Thanks, guys. Bookends might be a stretch. I did find another DIY site with some basic projects -- the crane and maybe the dancing duck puppet may work.

I've picked up a couple of books but haven't built much. "Woodworking for Kids, 40 Fabulous, fun & useful things to make" by Kevin McGuire has some neat simple projects.
It starts out with a discussion of tools etc. and plans to build tools like a miter box and workbench. Built the workbench with my son and it's heavy, solid and a great height.
My daughter built a "slit drum" which turned out to be a big hit.
A few other randomly selected projects (not attempted) include:
balance beam
rope ladder
stilts
doll's cradle
bike rack
display cabinet
bird box
trivet
puppet theater
Some a more complex but many are no worse than what you would deal with in a kit. Design though allows the child to actually cut their own parts with hand tools.

Dale?
Do you remember the name of the Bob the Builder kits?
Can't find anything on Lowes site other than books.

Well, lets see.
I know of a train, a tie rack, CD holder, and some sort of butterfly house..
The kits were individually packaged and complemented the goggles, hammer and miniature Lowes Apron also being marketed.
He got them (as an employee - probably a good deal) in late 2004 or early 2005?
The kits included precut boards, nails, & sandpaper. (Just try not to hit my fingers when you nail that...)

Check Lee Valley's catalog, they offer a book or two on projects for kids.
