Turn a separate base, perhaps in a contrasting colour wood, and glue it on.

RE: Dohhhh, I did it again!!!!
It's not a bottomless bowl.... It's a decorative tube. :)

Answer part A)
Lots of different ideas, besides already mentioned, lamp shades, put inlace in and return, section piece and use as earrings, section piece and use as a sculptural form, just keep imagining things, castles etc.....
Answer part B) {also known as how to avoid the aforementioned bottomless bowl}
The key for me was to increase the speed at which I rotated the handle side of the bowl gouge. This made the cut much more controlled as far as depth. The other thing that I personally don't do enough is measure the depth of the bowl. I am quite good at getting the wall thickness very thin and uniform, but I tend to mess up the bottoms when I remount and return the foot/base of the bowl and lose it there. The easiest way I have seen I learned from Bill Grumbine (see other post for site link) What he does is have a flat section of wood with two dowels. Lay the board across the bowl on the lathe (not spinning) and center one of the dowels at the base of the inside of the bowl. The other dowel was then slid to the outer base of the bowl. the difference in depth is what is left at the bottom of the bowl. If those two don't help, let me know and we can figure it out together, but those are my two best shots in the dark. Hope they help.
Best Regards,
Bill

Sure... Post the picture after I reply to you. Even with the hole, if you turn it upside down it will probably still work well as a frisbee.

Mearly the business end Carl...
Carl,
That is the Ellsworth bowl gouge from Woodturners Catalog. Was on the porch this afternoon. Yeah! And Thanks to Bill "volleyheads" about this grind.
It's about as long as the Midi lathe in length. Now I know what I've been missing. Nothing like a quality tool in your hands.
Made by Henry Taylor Tools. I think it is a fine tool after only one small use.

It's a beaut! And made real short work of this little bowl.
I did resort to a small scraper because I got the sides down pretty thin this time, intentionally. I didn't want to risk a catch and mess it up near being done.
A little sanding, a little finer sanding, some Scotch-Brite, and Johnsons Paste Wax, and polished off with a soft rag.
It's a gift for Betty's God Mother.
:D

RE: Mearly the business end Carl...
Sonny,
I don't know whether the picture was a set up to show scale...AND I can't imagine you not doing this. But like the Irishman, Norwegian,Pole,or whichever race you want to malign said when the foreman asked him why he had taken all day to cut one tree and in the process of checking out the chain saw started it,.... " what the #### is that noise." I take nothing for granted.
If you haven't already done so.
Make yourself a circle cutting jig for the Bandsaw or at least cut the blank circular freehand. It saves a lot of effort on the lathe.
Cheers limey

Limey,
Had to read that one twice to make sure, but it brightened the day.
