RE: Waiting for the big day

    Duane,

That is very nice work. Building for your own is a very nice way to leave part of yourself for the future. I built a Crib for my first Grandchild and here brother is using it now. It should be going strong for their grand kids.

    Duane,

Very nice work! I especially like the color. Did you use a duplicator or what? I am supposed to make a high chair for my first grandchild due the end of August but haven't started yet. This lathe thing is driving me crazy!!

No duplicater. Each spindle was turned free hand, duplicaters scrap the wood rather than cut it and are not that accurate on smaller spindles. Once I got going I could turn 4 per hour and sanding was at a minimum. Final step was grabbing a handful of shavings and while the piece was spinning rub it with the shavings. Removes the fine scratches and gives it a nice hand rubbed look.

    Marc,

Is that a new GIf or are you just happy to see me?

    :)

    Best Regards,

    Wow, Duane-

I am impressed. That give me hope that someday (if I ever get to USE my lathe) that I can duplicate too, because of course there are no commercial duplicators for this lathe available that I know of. What are you going to work on next?

    Duane,
Having built a cradle last year,..... missed the deadline by a month...
I can appreciate the work involved and congratulate you most heartily for pulling it off.
Great work and the spindles look excellent.
To repeat the comments of others it's a "new" antique that will be (hopefully) get passed down through generations to come.
    A sincere well done!!!

    Cheers Limey

Thanks all for the nice comments. Next on the list is phase 2 of the kitchen cabinets. My better half is getting anxious for it to be completed and I can't blame her so kitchen cabinets it is.

Hehehe.... I wanted to put the little grinning face on the tape measure but that was beyond my capabilities.. I get bored with the same-o stuff quickly... :)

    Duane,
A very gorgious piece of work! Very well done!
I hope she loves it as much as we all do. I hope you signed and dated it as well. That will be important for the future babies to be rocked in it.
    Truely heirloom quality! :)

    :D
