Aruba ,what kind of wood??????
I got 4 projects I am working on in Aruba......we have people flying back and forth on a regular basis. I spoke with one this morn 4 times in about an hour and a half. I happened to think, I wonder what kind of trees they got there so I asked him, he said yea they got a little scraggly tree here> I asked him to bring me a piece of it if he could. He called back later and asked how big a piece I wanted? I said from 3 to 20 inches it didn't matter. If it looks good I'll make a point of getting bigger and better pieces as time goes by.We will be working in that plant with on going construction for several months.

Dick,
Well, that would be Arubian wood. That wood be my guess.
But if it is gathered at night, well,
It'd be wood of Arubian Nights. :7
Heck if I'd know, old salt. But I sure hope it doesn't have any odd ball mold spores in it to crawl up your nose.
Will it get past customs OK? :9

To cut that stuff, you'll have to use...

Saw de Aruba.

OK, a little obscure. It's late.

Sonny is right. Customs is pretty tight with anything from the plant area -- flowers, trees, seeds, etc. That kind of stuff that comes over commercially supposedly goes through some sort of inspection or testing protocol. Just bringing some home on your own may get you called into the back office at U.S. Customs. I'd bounce it off of them first.

There are many kinds of woods native to the Netherlands Antilles. The most interesting to you would probably be lignum vitae. If you want to turn it, then you'd definitely want to get your hands on a green bit. It has the characteristics of granite once it's seasoned.

Might be a good way to play a "practical joke" on one of your co-workers. Those boys in customs can get awfully friendly when they are looking for things!!!
I had to read the "saw de Aruba" a couple of times, but like a fungus, it kind of grew on me...
