Has anyone turned Bubinga??
I don’t have many catches now days but I still get a little nervous when I am turning Bubinga. I did have one of the worst catches with this wood. It sounded like a grenade went off and I thought my tool snappe, wood went everywhere.
It sure does make pretty platters though.

RE: Has anyone turned Bubinga??
Bubinga has been one of the easier woods I have turned. I don't think you should be worried about turning it any more than any other hard wood.
Best Regards,
Bill

RE: Has anyone turned Bubinga??
I've turned a solid piece of Bubinga, one time. Other than it being extremly hard I didn't have a problem. I still have a piece that's about 6' by 8" by 2". I bought it when I first started turning and then didn't want to scew up a very expensive piece of wood. Now it just stars at me...lol! When I get a bandsaw and planer I plan on resawing it and using it in some segmented bowls. Until then I'll just let it star at me. The one shallow bowl I did turn from it has some really good looking grain/color.
