    Taking the plunge

Gonna get me a lil ol lathe tomorrow. Nothing fancy, just the jet mini. Going to get the 8 pc set of HF tools too I think. I havent used a lathe since high school shop class way back when. LOML never used a lathe. I think we might need a good beginners book. Any recommendations that a woodcraft store might have in stock?
Tomorrow is gonna be a good shopping day. Gonna go to home depot so the kid can do his woodworking project thing they do, then off to woodcraft, pick up the lathe, over to the mall so loml can buy some clothes, then probably lunch at chuck e cheeses, then off to HF for the cheap stuff, then hopefully back to woodcraft for more stuff :)

Sounds to me like your son is a lucky lad indeed...

Grab a turning video... it really helps to see how something is done... and a Raffan book is a good one for the bathroom library :)

    RE: Taking the plunge

Got the lathe, slapped a bit of edge on some gouges and such, and fired that sob up. Let loml and son have a go at it too. We each made a square wood into a round wood with some groove looking things and a few rounded out groove looking things. Slapped a chunk of sandpaper over it too boot. Then it got dark and time for dinner. Oh well, tomorrow is supposed to be pretty decent day so...

Im sure the lathe will go the way of my scrollsaw...wife will take it over and I will never get to play with it again.
