    Delta 46-715 Lathe

I have an opportunity to buy this lathe for around $500 (it is brand new). What can you guys tell me about the lathe? I have heard some concerns about it, relating to the tailstock and the bearings. Anyone have any comments? This would be a significant upgrade from my old Craftsman...

I know that for only $2k more, I could have a "real" lathe, but that ain't happening...

    Thanks,
    Don

    RE: Delta 46-715 Lathe

    Don,

I know some people have had problems with them (runout, bearings, etc.), but I haven't had any problems (Yet?). I'm very happy with mine, but I probably don't use it as much as a lot of the guys.

I paid $500 for mine too. I bought it from an individual that used to work for Delta and he had never used it. He had it stored for a couple of years so mine was just like new.

    RE: Delta 46-715 Lathe

I also have a Delta 46-715. Its is nice lathe. Yes, its not a Oneway but I don't have that kind of $$$ right now.

I've had the lathe just over a year now. I turn quite frequently and have had no bearing related problems to date. The tail stock does tend to move when you crank down on it. Often I give the lever a whack with a deadblow hammer to keep it from moving.

Until you can afford that Oneway you have your eye on, the Delta is a good choice. You should get lots of use of it.
