rope turnings
Hi; My son and I are designing a poster style bed for him. We hope to include a section with rope turnings. I am searching for someone with the skills and equipment to make 4 post segments in either oak or pine that have a rope style turning. Anyone with knowledge or expertise, please reply. Thanks

RE: rope turnings
One of the magazines I get was describing how to do this in an issue several months ago (can't remember if it was Fine Woodworking, Popular Woodworking, or Wood Magazine). I'll see if I can find the article.
How long a post are you looking to put on the bed? If you're really looking to find somebody to make it for you, the length of the post may make a big difference. Most of the people here seem to be hobbyists, and may not have big enough machines to accomodate what you want to do. You may need to find a professional with a much longer machine.

Thanks for the quick response. I should have included that we are looking for a segment about 245 tyo 36" long in about a 3.5 to 4.5 diameter.

Hm. I can't seem to find this article. I think it was FWW or Popular WW though.

RE: rope turnings
You could see if there is a local turning club, or a chapter of the American Woodturners Association near you and email their conact. I get lots of emails for work from our club president looking for members to help out people. That said I can't help you directly with your work.
Heres a link to the AWA chapters http://tinyurl.com/699sg
