RE: Cross cut Juniper pen - and now a question too

    Beautiful pencil .... http://www.woodhelp.com/thumbsup%20smiley.gif

"What do I need to do to fix that?"

It ain't broke as far as I am concerned... actually, I like it... looks like a highlight, kinda like they do when they advertise diamonds. :)

Funny how YOU can see things that others NEVER will.

I did not read the last line in the original post.

I looked at the pencil and thought it was simple awesome. I also thought the pic was awesome, knowing that photographing a pen is really hard. I was just thinking the pic was awesome.

Then I read Marcs comments and wondered why he poseted what he did .

I went back up to your original post and read it. I could not beleive you mentioned that about the lights.

Went back to the pic to see if I could see what you were talking about. Whew-that was hard to find to find - KNOWING, something was there to be found. I had to go back and reread the original post a couple of times.

Forget it man - that is an awesome pic.

If you are getting depressed because you are not PERFECT - take Prozac. Your problem is NOT with penmaking or picture taking.

That's a beautiful pen and an awesome picture, too. Those light reflections in the center band only enhance the look IMHO. I think it's perfect as is.

Now, since you've taken such a great pic, when and where are you going to donate your left gonad? }>

RE: Cross cut Juniper pen - and now a question too

You guys are too kind. Thanks for the comments. I had just never noticed the reflections before and had no idea that it could actually be a desirable feature.

I think the reason they showed up this time is because the pencil is longer than a pen and I had to move it further away from the camera which caused the light bulbs to be reflected in the band. If I had moved the camera back instead, it probably would not have showed up.

    Thanks again.

How to lose the hot reflections...

Use diffuser gels on the lights or (easier choice) don't light the subject directly. Bounce the lights off bright white posterboard or an umbrella reflector.

You can also spray the highly polished parts with a special reflection reducing compound... or, my personal choice, a light misting of good old fashioned Aqua Net.

RE: Cross cut Juniper pen - and now a question too

I didn't spot the balls of light in the picture the firdst time I looked at it, but the ensuing sdiscussion prompted me to remember the picture of the guy who was selling a copper tea kettle on E-bay.
He had polished it up so it reflected everything beautifully.
Even the image of himself taking the picture.
Oh yeah he likes to take his pictures in the nude.
