Those look pretty cool! I'm a little confused, though. Do you add some sort of pin or pointy thing in the end that spins on the floor? Also, are those designed to be wrapped with a string to spin them? I've turned some tops (grand kids love em) and turn the tips down to a point and on top I turn a dowel sort of thing so they can be spun between the thumb and index finger.

Those are cool, CjR. You're getting pretty good at this spinny stuff.

When I was a kid, I was pretty good with throw tops. We always tried to split the other's as it was spinning. I've split several of them.

But, I made one a while back and couldn't even get it to spin. I've forgotten how to throw it. I still know how to wrap the string but I just couldn't get it to land spinning on the point.

I may have to give it another try when I get home. :)

Thanks Cody. I'm still SO green at this stuff. Every time I grab a chisel, whether sharpening or turning, I keep wondering. So I'm on edge the whole time. I'm not even any where close to feeling comfortable with any thing yet.

Yeah, that looks more like what I'm used to seeing.

I've made quite a few with the knob on top for spinning between the thumb and index finger. I've taken them into work and had them sitting on my desk. Folks would come in and see one sitting there and just couldn't resist picking it up and spinning it. I'd just give it to him or her. Then a while later someone else would come by and complain that I'd given one to so and so and not to them. :) So I'd have to make another or three. Funny how the kid comes out in full grown adults over some simple toy from their childhood.

Yes Cody, they are both walnut. Made from the same piece of walnut that I made the chisel handles.

All nieces and nephews want them. I better turn them. Make these this morning outta oak. That oak touched flood water and got spalted.

These are competition tops. They will have spikes in them. A long string is needed to spin them.

Here are some more without the spikes to be used for practice on wood surface.

These are more traditional American shape tops. They are made out of walnut.
