RE: box full of secrets
Vernon,
Very innovative and well built! No doubt!
Many a times I've thought about venturing off into building something similar but the image of a hammer always comes to mind. I need to remind myself it's not really built to protect anything, it's built to be a clever conversational piece. Cause we all know if it's really built to protect valuables, it'll do nothing but frustrate a child and piss off a thief. In the end, they (thief) will smash it if after the valuables or they (child) will figure it out because of curiosity!
Nonetheless, looks great!

I've cut it three times and it's still too short!"

Oh, did I mention we have hardwood as well?

RE: box full of secrets
That is a very nice box. I particularly like the hidden compartments. The divider lock is clever. It is challenging to make all of the features work.

Great job and quite innovative.
BTW, your secret compartments and locking mechanisms are safe with us. We'll never tell anyone. :)

RE: box full of secrets
That is a very nice box with some really cool ideas built into it. Well done. I have played around with secret areas on a box, but have yet to have one work like I want it to.

box full of secrets
Hi everyone,
This is a handgun storage box that is locked with secret devices and has hidden compartments. I will try to explain what you see in the pictures. When the lid is closed and the shell casing with a fake bullet end is inserted into the hole in the case the lid will not raise. There is a metal tab inserted into the lid for the shell casing to catch into, it is hard to see in these pics. The shell casing is drilled out in the center of the rim and a small rare earth maginet is pressed into it. By touching metal(such as a knife blade) to it, it will pull right out and the lid can be raised. Next you will find a lift out tray and under it is a divider. By removing the divider you also pull out a brass pin which locks the slide out base in the closed position. As you can see there is a drawer attached to the slide out which will hold a hand gun. The last secret is in the bottom side of the lid which has a panel held in place by three rare earth magnets. By pressing on the left side of the panel it tilts the right side enough to allow you to remove the panel which shows the hollow space where money or paper might be hidden. I have made several of these from different woods. Most of the folks who have seen them want one. I hope you like the ideas. Email me if you have questions.
