how to make a square wooden box with a hinged door???

I have never made anything with wood in my life and was wondering how to make a square box with a hinged door that i can lock up and put in my bedroom. Not a big box but maybe about
1.5feet by 1.5feet. Thank you for any help you may give.

18" square is actually fairly large. You'll need to decide on several things. First is just how secure do you expect it to be. Next is how pretty do you want it.

Simplest plan for box is cube or rectangle made from plywood with 2x2's in corners for support. Screws will hold together, so will glue. Lid can be simple hinges with padlock hasp.

depending on desired strength you could use 1/2 or 3/4 ply.

Generally won't be pretty, but is simple to make. Nothing but straight cuts, dimensions not critical. Materal reasonably cheap.

You can go up from their in both cost and complexity. Simple plywood box can turn into wooden box with dovetailed or box joint corners. Next step up is banded trunk.

You say you've never done woodworking. What (if any) tools do you have. Plywood box can be made with circular saw and drill.
