    Best Joinery for Picture Frames?

Can someone tell me the best/easiest way to join the mitered ends of picture frames?

I know that wood glue will not work because it is end grain to end grain?

    Thanks,

    Erik

I use a splined miter most of the time... I just like the way it looks...

    That does look pretty cool.

What do you use for the spline?

Looks like if you use the kerf from the saw, it would be 1/8" something.

    Thanks for the help!

I use whatever is hanging around that'll give a nice contrast...

You can offset the joint from centered on the blade, and flip the frame and make another pass to widen the spline kerf if you want. You can also use a dado blade, or a router... Pick and choose whatever method you like based on stock width, and/or the style you like., because the principle's the same...

You can also bevel the blade a few degrees, which gives another variation on the theme. Picture frames may be too narrow for this, but it works well on small boxes & such.
