The price of good tools
The price of good tools, divided by the hours of fun we spend using them, makes the cost of fun per hour pretty darn cheap. Therefore, be it resolved, that each one of us should go out and buy something new today.
I'm off to look at the Leigh D4 Dovetail jig and the Incra Jig. May the best product win my hard earned dollars!

RE: The price of good tools
Gary,
That Leigh D4 is on my drool list since I seem to have too many other things going on to learn how to properly hand cut dovetails.
Happy hunting! :)

RE: The price of good tools
Already got my new quality tool(s) for today. The doorbell rang a while ago when I was in here answering some e-mail and it was the U.S. Postal Service. Left two boxes on my front step and was footing it back to the postal truck. One was a new forstner bit for European Cabinet door hinges, and four sets of said hinges from Rockler. The other was a big box with two new old Disston saws. Both were well ahead of when I expected them as it was a non-paypal seller on e-bay dealing under old tool rules, apparently. No way could the saws have gotten here today if the seller had waited for my snail mail payment to have gotten there before shipping it.

RE: The price of good tools
I found myself limited today only by product availability at the woodworking store I visited. Managed to drop .5k on router table and other misc "needs" anyway.
Buying tools is good for the mind, the body and the soul (hope LOML buys this).

RE: The price of good tools
I spent soo much money on FUN in the last year that I NEED to have fun without spending any more money.
Presently my money to fun ratio is too high on the money side.
Just means that I NEED to spend a LOT more time having FUN.
I think I'll go have some FUN now.

RE: The price of good tools
If you buy a D4, let us know where the best price is. I'm purty close to going the D4 route.

RE: The price of good tools
So what did I buy? I didn't buy anything. With money burning a hole in my pocket and after watching several demo's, I decided that for the time involved in set-up for the few fun projects I'd like to do that would include dovetails, the fun to dollar ration just wasn't there.
The LOML got dinner and maybe next time she won't be so negative about the tool I want. Then I'll probably end up with some tool that like the dovetail jig, I want real bad at the moment, knowing full well I'll probably never use it.
I've got a lot of tools I've never used. I mean still in the manufacturers box, seal unbroken, cause I just don't have a use for them at the moment. But SOMEDAY...............

RE: The price of good tools
Gary; If you get the Leigh D4 Dovetail jig, you will not regret it. I've had mine now for the last 3 years and think it to be one of my "no regret" tools in the shop. A little tricky to learn at first but once you have it down it's quick and easy to use.
Even for the price I paid for it! Yikes!
Edit in:
Well, Some day.
