$20/hr
I met a prospective babysitter today. She seems very nice, flexible, loves kids etc etc...
All was going splendidly until she mentioned that babysitters usually get around $5/hr per kid. That makes it 20 for me. Sighhhhhhh...
She mentions this after I told her I make $18/hr. What is with some people????
I don't really know why this kind of upsets me with all of the "things" I have been through in the last year and a half. This should be nothing.
I guess I was just looking forward to the help.
I'll just keep looking I guess.

RE: $20/hr
Is that canadian dollars?? We pay ours $20 day (US dollars). However, even at that thats 80 per day which makes it tough justify working after taxes and before any other expenditures if your net for the day is negative dollars. Sorry for your difficulties.
Kinda makes you want to open a daycare and take care of six more little ones eh??? 10 kids, not me...no thank you.

I was thinkin'... I know, bein' a man that's difficult but I was doin' it anyway. :) I was thinkin... not being a father myself, I don't know for sure but even in Knadjian dollars that sounds pretty steep to me.
Doesn't seem fair that a nonmother should get more for being a temporary mother than the mother herself gets for being a permanent one.
SURELY there are other 'sitters around who can work with ya better.

RE: $20/hr
hmm, you might wanna put in an ad for a grandmother type. they usually will clean and cook as well. if you're a church going type person, check with them. someone usually has a need for some extra income or companionship.
YMMV,
Anthony

.... because all those "things" start to pile up and eventually have enough weight to bear down on ya ....
I know it's tough, but hang in there Paula... keep looking and you'll find a solution....

She didn't want the job, or she isn't realistic about what she is worth. Does the local school have an after school day care up there?
You could bring them fellers to Grandpa Sonny's and Grandma Betty's day care.
We have reading, video's, swimming, flash cards, long distance peeing in the backyard, ca-ca patrols (dog do hunts), swings, rope 'n pulley flying, catch-me, and tickle me activities. And homework sessions as applicable. (Homework is undertaken right after an after school snack, and before any other activities, you know, get it out of the way so we can play.)
And once in a while something interesting might show up, like an errent Africian Desert Tortise, named Scooter. But usually just Tommy Toad will sing from poolside in the flowers when he hears the water splashing.
Love and guidence. Like, "No, pee on the GRASS, not the patio." Or, "No, we use the shovel for Ca-Ca, because some of it is squishie, not our fingers."
And sharing and taking turns. Mostly we charge in hugs and kisses. Because we feel kids need lots and lots of love first. Donations are for food and snacks for the kids. We just love kids. ;)

RE: $20/hr
Do you live in a college town. When I was trudging through studys at the U of A (GO WILDCATS!!) I needed some work experience with kids. My major was elementary ED. There were postings all over the college lobby for stuff like that - the students need experience for their studys and being that its summer - you might get lucky and find someone thats willing to work through the next year. Flyers are usually free to put up.
Might be worth looken into.
Good luck Puala!!

RE: $20/hr
Just my 2 cents. My wife Kimberly runs a daycare in our home. She says that is too steep. We get avarage $80 week for a baby to a toddler. Then on dropins it is usually $20 a night or day. So I would look around. Might see if you can find a website for your area of home daycares if thats what your looking for. Home daycares usually have fewer kids so they are not treated like cattle like some of the larger ones. Good Luck!!!
