    Latest effort... (pic)

Just finished this up last night. It's made of poplar, stained with Minwax red mahogany stain and top coated with oil-based poly. This was my first attempt at curved legs, that was kinda fun and I learned a couple things too.

    Oh yeah... sorry about that.

Yes, M & T's for the apron to leg joints.
Real drawer, raised the panel on the table saw (it doesn't really show in the pic)

Oh, and something else about the drawer front, (again, doesn't really show in the pic) but the front is cut from the center of front apron, that way the grain flows across the front. But, it's an overlay front, so it has to be bigger than the hole for the drawer. So to do this, I ripped pieces from the top and bottom of the apron, then cut out the center of the remaining board (to use for the drawer front), then ripped the apron center pieces a little narrower, and glued them and the top and bottom back together. So, it leaves a hole where the drawer front was removed, but smaller. Sounds more complicated than it is. Anyway, it lends a less interrupted look to the front.

I built this for a lady in my office. She wanted to try to match some other furniture she had, so she brought in an end table and I copied the shape of the top from that. It has an ogee edge treatment.

That sure doesn't look like any poplar project I've built! Very nice!

So, what do we have to do to work in your office and get really nice furniture? :)

Well, in reference to the curved legs. I learned it's not as hard as it might seem at first to do compound cuts on the band saw. (The legs curve out to the front and side, at a 45) And, if you have to glue-laminate pieces to make the legs, use a glue that will take stain, like a polyurethane or hide glue. I used yellow glue and since I cut down through the joint mostly lengthwise instead of just across it, it left a noticeable glue line when I applied the stain.

Beautiful table. You did a really fine job.

The grain match with the drawer/apron is a nice touch, also.

You worked some magic on that poplar.
